Dairy Goats

Nigerian Dwarf Doe and buckling

After we completed a lengthy analysis pertaining to the pros and cons of milk producing livestock on our homestead, we decided to raise Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats.

The Nigerian Dwarf Goat is a miniature breed of domestic dairy goat.  They exhibit similar conformation to larger breeds, only on a smaller scale.  As a breed, Nigerian Dwarf Goats are gentle and playful.  They have a calm and even temperament which also makes them great pets!  In spite of their smaller size, Nigerian Dwarf goats can produce a surprisingly large amount of milk.  Our does are each producing up to two quarts per day.  Additionally, butterfat percentage (between 6-10%) and protein are higher than that of other dairy goat breeds.  To top it off, the milk from these goats also has a wonderfully sweet flavor.
