Welcome to our homestead!

Fasching Farm homestead is surrounded by native rangeland located in the high country of southwestern Montana just 5 miles west of Ennis.   To compliment the abundant antelope, Hungarian partridge, deer and other wildlife and predators, we raise registered Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats along with a variety of chickens, pheasants, ducks, turkeys, pigs, and a couple of happy cats.

Our homestead journey began for the sole purpose of enjoying sustainable living and self-sufficiency by growing, gathering, and harvesting the food we eat through subsistence agriculture and the wise use of our natural/renewable resources.

However, like many of the homesteaders that settled in the wide open spaces of Montana more than a hundred years ago, we too discovered that it was  not so easy (in fact, quite challenging at times) to start with a raw piece of native rangeland and carve out a home that provides for all of our needs.  Our idea of “homesteading” started when we realized that the food infrastructure we live in relies too heavily on highly processed foods, long distance growers, and a cultural habit of over consumption and waste.  We did not want to be part of that unhealthy system.

There is indescribable  personal satisfaction that comes from a homesteading lifestyle where we grow and harvest our own food, raise our own animals, and build our own home.  To us, it is all about living a satisfying life, working hard and going to bed tired and fulfilled.

Are you interested in establishing your own modern homestead or maybe just learning how to raise your own food? Well, this is the place to start.
